The “Summary of the EPA’s Budget” shows an general idea of the Agency’s Budget and of the Agency
activities. Available from 1997-present. President Bush's 2006 budget provides $7.6 billion for the EPA. It helps to
protect public health and improve the environment, and it helps increase resources for EPA's role in security against terrorist
acts.

Special message from President Nixon,
To the Congress of the United States:
As concern with the condition of our physical environment has intensified, it has become increasingly clear that we need
to know more about the total environment--land, water, and air. It also has become increasingly clear that only by reorganizing
our Federal efforts can we develop that knowledge, and effectively ensure the protection, development and enhancement of the
total environment itself.
President Nixon expresses the need for the EPA in the 70s, it has stayed in power and been influential in our government
ever since.
